About Us

The Department of Psychological Science works to advance the science of psychology through high quality research, teaching, and service. Faculty and students conduct research on a wide range of topics in psychology and engage in interdisciplinary research in areas such as Health Psychology, Organizational Sciences, and Cognitive Sciences. Faculty research is funded through a number of federal and state grants and contracts. All students take coursework in statistics and research methods, enabling them to become consumers of research and/or to conduct research, and are encouraged to become involved with faculty in their research programs.

The high quality teaching of psychology in the department has been recognized through awards to individual faculty and to the department, which was the first winner of the university’s Provost’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. In addition to the 1800 majors in our undergraduate program, the department has over 130 graduate students in master’s programs in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and in Psychology, and doctoral programs in Health Psychology (providing training in Community, Clinical and General tracks) and Organizational Sciences. Faculty and students also provide significant service to the community, through applied research programs that use data to improve community well-being, involvement in professional societies, and student course projects and internships.
